DEMONIZATION

In 2016, Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton “the devil.” An Axios poll from late 2019 revealed that more than 20 percent of Democrats and Republicans viewed the other party as "evil.” Unyielding division is expressed and exacerbated as pop items besmirch candidates on all sides by showing them with iconic attributes of the Christian devil, such as horns. Demonization scapegoats and dehumanizes. It disallows necessary dialogue, compassion and empathy across differences – identified by Martin Luther King, Jr. as the basis of nonviolence and community.
