Items on all sides rely on questing the sexuality and gender and a candidate and labeling them “abnormal.” One of Thomas Jefferson’s paid hacks, James Callender, smeared his rival, President John Adams, as having a “hideous hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.” Many current items on all sides are transphobic. Trump’s critics try to put him down by depicting him in feminine dress. Michelle Obama is mocked as a trans woman and Hillary Clinton as a secret man. Trump has enacted many transphobic policies, including a ban on trans people serving in the military. Items advocating transgender rights vow resistance to his presidency.
