THE OTHER, THE STRANGER 

Disability Studies scholar Rosemarie Garland-Thomson writes that the “Other” is an “historical figure” reflecting “shifting social ideologies” about who is deemed “normal” and who is seen as “abnormal,” a  “freak,” an “alien.” In presidential pop paraphernalia, anyone who doesn’t fit the traditional presidential model is deemed “Other.” Low-key White men with a conventional front, like Joe Biden, pass as the very familiar “Average Joe” to whom few if any colorful or extreme archetypes attach.
